Week 8 MT

Finished up week 8 in the marathon trail.  The miles are starting to add up.  I am used to spreading the wealth on the workouts and my body, but this is totally different for me.  I have cut back and really only swim and bike once per week now.  This past week I was up to 37 miles for the week, however this is a rest week with only 31.  My long run for the week was a little over 15 miles (more than I have ever run at once before) and it was interesting.  Most of it was in the dark with a headlamp, but beyond mile 10, my mind was in a place I have not been before,  very foggy and somewhat trans-like.  There was a definite level of pain, but I could definitely tell the nutrition was off.  Guess I am going to have to work on that.
Spent this past weekend at Woodberry Forest up the road in Orange and the BASS invitational for B.   He did very well and improved all his times (even scored a AA time on the backstroke).  He was a little disappointed because he was DQ'd not once but twice on the 100 and 200 IM (missed the touch coming out of breast stroke both times).  The bad part is he would have won the 100 otherwise, but no matter it was hopefully a great lesson for him.
I added another blog to my watch list this week that is very interesting, http://jessbullard.tumblr.com/.
Admittedly I have not read the whole thing but it is the journey of a lady in town here that follows the process in a book called Clean.

Living in the gluten free world and trying to remove as many chemicals from my family's diet as I can, books like this always intrigue me.  Check it out if you are interested.

Recap

I am back from a few weeks of fun, sun, and craziness.  Let's do a little recap.
Computer was down for about 8 days.  No internet except at work.  Had a couple people take a look and made several calls to my dad, but in the end the moral of the story is......Do not remove Norton from your computer, it will screw it up.
After that I spent 3 days in Florida with B and we had an awesome time.  It was nice to get into some warm weather and do some running there.  We also made a few other stops.

Yes, that is B shaking hands with the D.Wade, then B with his Uncle Joe (sorry Janet, no good pics).
I was able to keep up with the training that week and did all 36 miles for the week.
After getting back from Florida I spent 2 short days at work then it was off to Davis, WV for some skiing with good friends and the whole family.  Skiied 1 day at Canaan valley, 2 half days at Timberline, and got to try cross country skiing for the first time.

First time at Whitegrass.  Thanks Paige.

                                                                  Total determination

The deer were verywhere.

It was a great trip, but we had to end it a half day early to get back and avoid the snow through the mountains.
So this week its back to training.  I have to somehow fit in 4 runs in the next 3 days (including my 15 miler which, for my own sanity, has to be done outside in the snow).  M started her half iron training yesterday, but we have both been fighting the crud for the past week or so (her more than me), so there may be a few more rest days in the near future.

2010 Training Totals

I am pretty proud of these so I thought I would post them.  This is by far the most training I have ever done.  I started recording them on 1/28/10, so I am missing most of January in these totals.  if you are looking for  a great place to log your training, http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/ is what I have been using.

2010 Training Totals

Swim   86 hrs 50 min 40 s   - 180,193.4 yards
Bike   148 hrs 40 min 58 s  - 2,300.41 miles
Run   122 hrs 34 min 12 s   - 800.87 miles

Network Unidentified

Have had to take a temporary hiatus from the blog due to problems with my home network.  Who knew that computers could be this frustrating.  Hoping to get it back soon.  Have been frantically searching the internet looking for solutions to my problem.
Other than that, my week has been somewhat non-eventful, which is good.  Have amassed 30 miles of running this week and managed to get in 2 swims also.  Hope to get out on my bike tomorrow, but will have to see if the weather cooperates.
My long run for the week is up to 12 miles and I have done numerous runs in the past at this length, but the pain I am having in my legs starting at about mile 8 continues to worsen.  Not a specific type pain, just general overall pain.  I can only guess it is from the day after day running and increasing weekly mileage.
B has basketball game Saturday and both kids have swim meet in Lynchburg on Sunday, Go CYAC.  They are very excited.
Have done a lot of thinking after hearing my wifes uncle preach at a funeral last weekend.  He was amazing.  What a blessing it was for the family to hear what he had to say about salvation.

1000 straight

So it was Thursday 12/30 and not much was happening.  I had gotten up and got a 3 miler in early as one of my short runs for the week.  Let me start off by saying I am constantly amazed by my 2 children and what they accomplish.  B wanted to go to AFC (Aquatic Fitness Center at UVA) to swim because he was missing swim practice with CYAC to go to Richmond later and see my wifes family.  He must have been motivated, because we were supposed to swim a 500yd straight swim together as our main set, but he kept going and smacked down his first 1000yd straight swim in 17:10.  He was pretty excited and so proud of himself (as well he should be).  Next up for him is 1650yds (the mile).

New Years Eve was the day I had designated for my long run of the week (11 miles).  Garmin was not charged so I had to run on time.  Ended up 11.7 miles(not bad), but ran too fast 8:58 mile.  For me, my long runs should be a little above my marathon pace (10:00/mile).  Will make sure Garmin is functional next week for sure.

I am not sure what my legs should feel like in week 4 of marathon training.  They feel a bit tired even coming off my recovery week, but mught be because I have still been doing some trainer sessions on the bike throughout the week.  We'll see how long that lasts.
